Essential oils are called “essentials” because they are the essence of the plant.

Essentials oils are the plant’s immune system — the produce essentials to protect the plant against environmental and outside threats. This is why they are so useful when we use them. Example clove has antibacterial type properties to defend its self against mould and disease. So when we extract the oil, we now have those properties within a little magic bottle called doTERRA.

There are a wide variety of plants that cover the Earth in different shapes, sizes, colours, and scents. These plants contain compounds within the roots, flowers, seeds, bark, or other areas of the plant. These compounds are known as essential oils. They are highly concentrated, making them incredibly potent. Essentials oils are volatile aromatic compounds. Meaning they react quickly and can disperse within the air very quickly. These oils give plants their aroma, protect them from harsh environmental conditions and insects. Because they move quickly through the air, you will experience the scent with sensors in the brain very quickly. All oils are different and have different aromatic constituents giving them unique and specific benefits.

doTERRA essential oils are extracted in three main methods: steam, cold press or solvent extraction. To learn more about these methods click Here
